Symbol Family Support Service is a specialist organisation which exists to support people with learning disabilities.
Symbol Family Support Service aims to promote the value of family life for parents who have special needs. Through bringing together a specialist team of expert practitioners, Symbol offers a unique service to clients who themselves encounter disability and resulting social exclusion.
Not every family is able to care for their children but at Symbol, we believe that where concern exists, every person has the right to have their parenting potential assessed, supported and understood.
Our service is based upon evidence. It is based upon the research data which informs us as to the parenting difficulties, styles of intervention and possible outcomes for parents with special needs.
Our emphasis is on identifying difficulties and seeking solutions through skilled intervention. Service provision should be viewed in the long term. There are no short, sharp solutions for achieving parenting for people with special needs.
